I recently felt in a sorting-out kind of mood so I decided to start small by tackling the pens in my pen pot. It started life full of quality biros and nicely sharpened pencils. Sadly, with the arrival of children on the scene, this idyllic situation didn’t last long and it ended up stuffed full of dried-up felt-tips and odd sticks that at one point may have been a pencil-crayon.
So I embarked on a clear-out of these interlopers and cleansed my pen pot of anything other than quality hotel biros and a couple of nicely-sharpened pencils.
What I didn’t realise was that in cleansing my pen pot, I was staining my hands, and, even worse, my favourite T-shirt. Blue ink…everywhere! How does that work? it’s not like I was shaking a load of fountain pens about…
Anyway, after a few hours of scrubbing, my delicate hands were restored to their former glory and all was good with the world (apart from the shirt, which is currently going through the mangle, hopefully to come out sparkly clean). What was really spooky was that the next day, LifeHacker (top blog for tips on everything from curing hiccups to editing videos) featured a post about how to use a teabag to clean pen marks off your hands. How useful would that have been had it arrived a few hours earlier?
So, having already achieved pen pot zen, I have yet to try this out. But next time I find my desk accessories infected with the flotsam and jestom of my children’s art kits, I’ll give this a go.
